Assistant Sheriff David Lelevier

Assistant Sheriff Lelevier embarked upon his law enforcement career in January of 1992 as a Deputy Sheriff with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office. As a newly appointed Deputy Sheriff, he began serving the public with assignments at the Robert Presley Detention Center and the Sheriff’s law enforcement contract at the Riverside General Hospital. Lelevier was later assigned to patrol at the Hemet Sheriff’s Station where he obtained experience patrolling the unincorporated county areas that surround Hemet, Sage and Idyllwild.  

In 1996, he was selected and appointed to the ancillary duty of the Sheriff’s Emergency Services Team (SWAT). He was then transferred to the Moreno Valley Station where he worked patrol and was later assigned to the Special Enforcement Team working street level narcotics enforcement and career criminal apprehension. Several years later, while serving in his assignment with the Moreno Valley Special Enforcement Team, he was promoted to the rank of Investigator and assigned to the major narcotics unit within the Special Investigations Bureau.

In 2001, Lelevier was promoted to the rank of Sergeant where he supervised and trained line staff at both the Robert Presley Detention Center and the Southwest Detention Center. In 2004, he was transferred to the Ben Clark Training Center where he carried out his duties as the Sheriff's firearms sergeant overseeing the Sheriff's firearms training, weapons inventory, and the Sheriff's shooting range. In January 2005, he was assigned to the full-time SWAT team as a sergeant supervising SWAT team operators within the Special Enforcement Bureau. During his tenure as a SWAT Sergeant, Lelevier gained invaluable experience in the planning and orchestrating of numerous large-scale operations and significant events. Among those notable events was the experience he gained leading his squad in a collaborative effort with the United States Secret Service during the security detail for then President George W. Bush’s attendance to former President Gerald Ford’s funeral/repose services held in eastern Riverside County.

As a Sheriff’s Sergeant, Lelevier held a variety of other line-level leadership assignments, such as the Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement Team, Jurupa Valley Station Patrol, Moreno Valley Station Patrol and the Moreno Valley Special Enforcement-Gang Unit. He earned an Associate in Science degree in Administration of Justice and a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. In 2012, Assistant Sheriff Lelevier was promoted to the rank of lieutenant and he was assigned to the Robert Presley Detention Center. During his tenure as a lieutenant, Assistant Sheriff Lelevier also held a management assignment at the Lake Elsinore Station Detective Bureau and in 2016, he returned to the Sheriff's largest contract city, the Moreno Valley Station. He remained in a leadership position in Moreno Valley and on January 7, 2019, Sheriff Chad Bianco appointed Lelevier to take over as Acting Commander of the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station. He remained in command of the Moreno Valley Station for one year until Sheriff Bianco appointed him to the position of Chief Deputy Sheriff within Sheriff’s Administration.

On June 30, 2022, Assistant Sheriff Lelevier was appointed to his current rank by Sheriff Chad Bianco.
