Correctional Lieutenant Steve Taylor passed away from complications caused by a work-related illness on February 24, 2022. On December 21, 2021, Correctional Lieutenant Taylor arrived at work and was experiencing minor symptoms of illness. On Tuesday, December 28, 2022, he communicated that his symptoms were now worsening. The next day, Correctional Lieutenant Taylor attempted to receive treatment, and during the medical pre-screening, it was discovered his oxygen levels were not at the optimal range. Attempts to raise his oxygen levels failed and he was subsequently taken to the Emergency Room at the Riverside Community Hospital where he was admitted the same day. On January 6, 2022, Correctional Lieutenant Taylor was sedated and placed on a ventilator. For the next three weeks, Correctional Lieutenant Taylor’s condition varied greatly. It was not until January 29, 2022, after a week-long attempt to lessen the sedation, did Correctional Lieutenant Taylor awaken and become somewhat responsive. Three weeks later, Correctional Lieutenant Taylor’s condition improved enough to allow him to be moved to a rehabilitative care facility. A week later, on February 24, 2022, Correctional Lieutenant Taylor suffered a sudden medical emergency, and despite lifesaving efforts, the medical staff were unable to revive him.

Steve Taylor began his service with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office on June 8, 1995. During his time as a Correctional Deputy, he worked assignments at the Indio Jail and the Southwest Detention Center. On September 14, 2006, he was promoted to Correctional Corporal and transferred to the Robert Presley Detention Center. On December 1, 2011, he was promoted to Correctional Sergeant and worked at the Southwest Detention Center and SITE-B. Steve was promoted to his current rank of Correctional Lieutenant on January 17, 2019, and again transferred to the Robert Presley Detention Center. He was known for being a loving, compassionate, supportive and giving husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend who loved to travel, eat great food, and help others.

Correctional Lieutenant Steve Taylor, age 51, is survived by his wife of 12 years.
