Details:

On March 31, 2020, at 9:09 p.m., deputies from the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station were dispatched to a report of a disturbance with multiple males and at least one subject armed with a firearm in the 23500 block of Sunnymead Ranch Pkwy. While deputies were on their way, it was reported that several vehicles fled eastbound at a high rate of speed. Deputies located one of the fleeing vehicles, conducted a traffic stop at Heacock Ave. and Parkland Ave., and detained two males. An additional call of shots fired in the area of Sunnymead Ranch Pkwy. and Perris Blvd. was also reported within minutes of the original call, and an additional report of a traffic collision was received. As deputies arrived at the intersection of Sunnymead Ranch Pkwy. and Hyachinth Ln., they found a white Dodge Charger had collided with a wall at the intersection. A male adult was found with multiple gunshot wounds, and emergency medical personnel was requested.

Evidence of a shooting near that intersection was found, and a crime scene was established. Moreno Valley Station Special Enforcement Team Deputies and the Investigations Bureau began the investigation. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed from his wounds. The Central Homicide Unit responded and assumed the investigation.

One of the males detained during the traffic stop was determined to be a suspect, he was later identified as Jayvonte Wilkinson, 24 years of Moreno Valley. Wilkinson was arrested for murder and booked at the Robert Presley Detention Center.

The decedent was identified as Jared Lewis, 23 years of Moreno Valley. The investigation is currently on-going and no further information will be released at this time. If anyone has information regarding this investigation, they are encouraged to call Investigator Pentel at the Moreno Valley Station at 951-486-6700 or Investigator Mendoza with the Central Homicide Unit at 951-955-2777.
