Details:
On April 03, 2020, Thermal Station Deputies responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon (firearm), that occurred in the 91000 block of 5th Street, Mecca. The suspect struck the victim on top of the head with a firearm, then fled the scene. The victim sustained a laceration to the top of his head.
On April 14, 2020, The Southern Coachella Community Services District Team (SCVCSD) assumed the investigation. Deputies identified the suspect as Irving Valenzuela (29 years) of Mecca. SCVCSD, and the Coachella Community Action Team, served a search warrant in the area of 91000 Block of 5th Street, Mecca. Valenzuela was located and taken into custody without further incident. It was later determined the weapon used was brass knuckles.
