Details:

On 03/24/20 at approximately 8:00 pm, task force officers from the Riverside County Gang Task Force conducted a vehicle stop in the 400 block of Florida Ave., in the city of Hemet. The Officers contacted two occupants, one of which was Stephen Brayley, who had two warrants for his arrest for grand theft and counterfeiting. Brayley was taken into custody without incident. During a search of the vehicle, numerous personal checks, cashier’s checks, money orders, savings bonds, and other documents not belonging to Brayley were located. There was evidence of identity theft, check fraud, and grand theft. A small amount of methamphetamine was also recovered. There was a total of 340 personal checks, cashier’s checks, money orders, and savings bonds believed to be stolen. A large portion of the checks were taken during the month of March, 2020 from multiple locations. Officers were able to contact some of the victims and determined that they were likely stolen from blue US Postal Service mailboxes located outside of several different US Post Office locations. The following location have been impacted:

Hardman Post Office- 5172 Arlington Avenue, Riverside, CA 92504

Chino Hills Post Office- 14071 Peyton Drive, Chino Hills, CA 91709

San Jacinto Post Office- 315 E. Esplanade Avenue, San Jacinto, CA 92583

Moreno Valley Post Office- 23580 Alessandro Avenue, Moreno Valley, CA 92553 Palm Desert Post Office- 74801 Hovley Lane E. Palm Desert, CA 92260

This investigation is being forwarded to the US Postal Inspector for further investigation and federal prosecution. For any inquires regarding the investigation, please contact the US Postal Inspector at your local US Post Office.
