Details:

On Sunday, April 12, 2020, about 7:00 AM, Jurupa Valley Patrol Deputies were dispatched to an attempt carjacking that occurred in the area of Mission Blvd. and La Rue St. in Jurupa Valley. During the attempt carjacking, the victim was pistol whipped several times causing serious head injury. At the time of the initial investigation, witnesses identified the suspect only by his gang moniker. Having very few leads, Jurupa Valley Patrol Deputies reached out to members of the Regional Gang Taskforce, Region 7, which is based out of the Jurupa Valley Patrol Station, to assist in identifying the suspect. Taskforce officers immediately recognized the moniker and identified the suspect as Cornelius Anthony Harris, 36-year-old resident of Jurupa Valley. At that point, members of the Riverside County Regional Gang Task Force from Region-7 along with members of the Jurupa Valley Special Enforcement Team assumed the investigation.

During their investigation, Taskforce officers learned Harris was on parole under Post Release Community Supervision out of Riverside County, (PRCS), for burglary and was also wanted for a separate investigation related to possession of a stolen vehicle. Based on this information, Taskforce officers were able to establish enough probable cause to terminate Harris’ parole and a parole violation warrant was issued. Taskforce officers and members of the Jurupa Valley Special Enforcement Team began actively looking for Harris.

On April 26, 2020, Harris was located in San Bernardino County in possession of a stolen vehicle. When officers attempted to place him under arrest, Harris fought with the officers and was eventually taken into custody. Harris was charged with resisting arrest and being in possession of stolen property. Harris was booked into a San Bernardino County Jail for those charges, where he remained in custody till May 07, 2020. On that date, Harris was released to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department and was transferred to the Robert Presley Detention Center for his parole violation. Within hours of his booking, Harris was released from custody.

On May 14, 2020, Taskforce officers met with the district attorney’s office where an arrest warrant was issued for the assault with a deadly weapon. Later that day, Taskforce officers and Jurupa Valley Special Enforcement Team members located Harris and took him into custody without incident. Harris was later booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center for the below listed charges;

➢ Assault with a deadly weapon

➢ Mayhem

➢ Possession of a stolen vehicle

➢ Brandishing of a weapon

➢ Criminal Street Gang Membership

The Region 7 Gang Task Force is one of six teams composing the Riverside County Regional Gang Task Force, with the goal of combating criminal street gangs throughout Riverside County.
