Details:

On June 22, 2020 at 6:45 a.m., Moreno Valley Station deputies were dispatched to the Carl’s Jr. restaurant, located at 25055 Elder Ave. regarding a robbery at gun point.  The suspect pulled to the drive thru window, pointed a black semi-automatic handgun at an employee and demanded money.  That employee immediately fled, and the suspect entered the store by climbing through the drive thru window.  Once inside, the suspect threatened additional employees and removed money from a cash register.  The suspect then exited the store and entered a Grey, Nissan Sentra and fled the area.  Members of the Moreno Valley Station Robbery Burglary Suppression Team (RBST) assumed the investigation from its onset.  Through several investigative tools; to include the city of Moreno Valley Citywide Camera System, the suspect was identified as David Akau age 23, from Moreno Valley.  Through diligent work by RBST members as well as the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department SWAT Team and the Riverside Police Department, Akau was taken into custody in the city of Riverside.  Akau was on parole and out on bail for an additional charge.  Based on Akau’s continued violent criminal behavior, a bail enhancement was sought and granted.  Akau was ultimately booked at the Robert Presley Detention Center.  Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Moreno Valley Station Deputy Ryan Morgan at 951-486-6700.
