Palm Desert Station Burglary Suppression Unit (BSU) conducted further investigation regarding several residential “Cat” burglaries that occurred between the dates of November 30, 2019 to July 16, 2020, in the 47000 block of Marrakesh Drive, Palm Desert.  The victims were inside their residences when the suspect entered and removed property from within the residences.  BSU members identified the suspect as, Calvin Arnold, 53 years of Palm Desert.  On July 28, 2020, Arnold was arrested for an outstanding parolee at large warrant. Once Arnold was in-custody, BSU members added three counts of residential cat burglary against Arnold, which was filled by the District Attorney’s Office on July 30, 2020.In addition to the charges, a bail enhancement was requested and approved.  Arnold remains in custody at the Riverside County Jail in Indio.

Cat burglaries garner a heightened level of concern from the law enforcement community because of the elevated level of risk for the victims. The potential for a dangerous encounter between the homeowner/victim and the suspect is significantly higher in these types of crimes. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department would like to remind you to lock your doors and windows when practical, even when you are home, to assist with keeping you and your family safe.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department is asking anyone with additional information regarding this case to contact Deputy Joshua Smith (760) 836-1600 or call anonymously at (760) 341-STOP (7867) and reference incident #’s T193350048, T201980106, T201990054.
