Update:

The suspects in this case were identified as Aaron Aubrey 26 years old out of Riverside, Jason Barton, 43 years old out of Moreno Valley, and Richard Hampton 37 years old out of Moreno Valley. All three are currently in custody on other cases and pending additional charges reference this homicide. 

Update:

The decedent in this case has been identified as Rosendo Echevarria, 29 years old out of Cathedral City.  This investigation  continues and no additional details are currently available.

Details:

On Tuesday, September 8, 2020, at 9:34 PM, deputies from the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility responded to a housing unit within the facility regarding a suspicious circumstance. Upon arrival, they located a male suffering from injuries sustained during an attack by other inmates.

Deputies and facility medical staff attempted life saving measures but ultimately determined the male was deceased. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit responded and assumed the investigation. The name of the decedent is not being released at this time, pending notification to next of kin.
