Update:

Palm Desert, Calif. – Two arrested for Driving Under the Influence (DUI)  while conducting a DUI checkpoint on September 19, 2020.

The checkpoint was held at Hwy 111 and Painters Path from 7:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. Four drivers were cited for operating a vehicle unlicensed or with a suspended/revoked license. 613 vehicles passed through the checkpoint and 80 were screened for driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

Checkpoint locations are based on a history of crashes and DUI arrests. The primary purpose of checkpoints is not to make arrests, but to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired.

Impaired driving remains a top traffic safety concern. Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Details:

Palm Desert, Calif. – As we approach the end of summer, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department encourages the public to be responsible and safe as we close out the summer months and head into the fall season.

On September 19th from 7:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m., Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station will also be holding a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) checkpoint at an undisclosed location within the city of Palm Desert.

Riverside County Sheriff’s Department reminds the public that impaired driving is not just from alcohol. Some prescription medications or over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving. Always follow directions for use and read warning labels about driving or ”operating heavy machinery,” which includes driving a car. While medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal, driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal.

If you plan on drinking or taking medications that may impact your ability to drive safely, plan on staying at home. If you are going to a bar or restaurant, designate a sober driver before heading out for the evening.

Riverside County Sheriff’s Department encourages the community to think of the safety of themselves and their families when enjoying the final few days of summer. Your actions save lives.
