On Thursday, October 15, 2020, at 5:50 PM, Banning Police Department patrol officers were dispatched to a suspicious circumstance call at a Barber Shop located in the 2500 block of West Ramsey Street in the City of Banning. The reporting party and later determined to be the victim, called 9-1-1 and stated he had been assaulted and needed medical assistance.

Within minutes, members of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Region 2 Gang Task Force arrived on scene and took primary in the investigation.  It was discovered that the victim, who will not be identified at this time, was approached by a male suspect in the Barber Shop. The suspect, later identified as Jahmal Davis, a 32 year old resident of the City of Long Beach, attacked the victim and a physical altercation occurred.  During the physical altercation, Davis began choking the victim and the victim became unconscious.  A bystander intervened and attempted to stop Davis from choking the victim. The victim was able to provide Gang Task Force Officers with a description of the suspect.
