Spread Holiday Cheer: Drive Sober This Holiday Season

Temecula CA – The holidays will feel a bit different this year, but one thing that has not changed is choosing a sober way to go.

This holiday season, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department’s Southwest Station encourages the community to make sure every holiday celebration ends with a sober driver.

Starting Nov. 30 and through Dec. 15, the Southwest Station will have additional officers on patrol looking for drivers suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

In addition, officers will be actively looking for other unsafe driving practices – speeding, not wearing a seat belt, driving distracted, not yielding to bicyclists or pedestrians – to make sure everyone has a safe holiday.

Captain Zach Hall said, “Simple safety measures help to ensure we all safely enjoy the holidays. We encourage everyone to take care when they travel by not drinking and driving, following the speed limit, ensuring your vehicle is well-maintained, staying off your phone while driving and ensuring everyone wears a seat belt.  Doing these things will help keep you, your passengers, and others safe.”

The Southwest Station reminds drivers that driving high does not fly. Marijuana, prescription drugs, and over-the-counter medications may impair, especially in combination with alcohol and other drugs.

“There’s no joy in Driving Under the Influence,” Captain Hall said. “Sober is the way to go.”
