On Wednesday, January 27, 2021, patrol deputies assigned to the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station responded to a call for service regarding a past lewd acts on a child, that occurred at a residence in the 6700 block of San Tomas Street, in the unincorporated area of Desert Hot Springs. The investigation was immediately forwarded to the Palm Desert Investigations Bureau. During the course of the investigation, it was revealed that between the years of 2017 through 2019, Jesus Rivera, 45 years old from Palm Springs had committed continual aggravated rape, sexual child abuse and lewd acts with a child under duress. On Wednesday, February 10, 2021, investigators located and arrested Rivera in the 67000 block of Ramon Road, Palm Springs. After being interviewed, Rivera was arrested and booked into the John Benoit Detention Center, in the city of Indio for committing the sexual assault crimes.

On Thursday, February 18, 2021, Investigators contacted Aura Rivera-Vidal, 32 years of Coachella, via cell phone and she agreed to respond to the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station. Investigators were able to determine Rivera-Vidal had prior knowledge of the crimes Rivera committed and she was responsible for the well-being of the victim during the time period the victim was sexually assaulted. Rivera-Vidal was arrested and booked into the John Benoit Detention Center, in the city of Indio for child endangerment and dissuading a witness.
