Details:

On Thursday, March 4, 2021, at 11:59 AM, deputies from the Riverside Sheriff’s Department - San Jacinto Station responded to a residence in the 900 Block of Cypress Drive, San Jacinto reference an overdose. Upon arrival, they located an adult male unresponsive due to a suspected fentanyl overdose.

Deputies provided immediate first aid to the male and initiated CPR; however, the male did not survive. The deceased male was identified as Adam Young, 23 years old from San Jacinto. San Jacinto Station personnel, including their Special Enforcement Team (SET) and Investigation Bureau, responded to the scene and initiated an investigation. Information developed by SET during the investigation led to the request of assistance from the Riverside Sheriff’s Department - Special Investigations Bureau (SIB) Narcotics.

SIB Narcotics investigators and San Jacinto SET deputies served a narcotics related search warrant in the 100 block of N. Dillon Avenue, San Jacinto, which resulted in the seizure of firearms, cash, and approximately 2000 “M-30” pills of fentanyl. The Riverside Sheriff’s Department - Central Homicide Unit (CHU) responded and assumed the death investigation portion of this case. Information and evidence discovered during the subsequent overdose death and narcotics investigation led investigators to arrest Samuel Mussaw, 21 years old out of San Jacinto, for murder and possession of drugs for sales.

Riverside County has been experiencing an influx of overdoses specifically related to fentanyl distribution within M30 pills. Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is 80-100 times stronger than morphine! All drugs and counterfeit pills are themselves deadly because they are often mixed with fentanyl or a derivative of fentanyl. These substances alone or mixed together can kill in very small doses!

This is an active investigation and no additional details are currently available. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department encourages anyone with information regarding the incident to contact Central Homicide Master Investigator Joshua Button at (760)393-3531 or (951) 955-2777.
