On March 17, 2021, about 11:17 PM, deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Moreno Valley Station, responded to the report of a major injury collision near the intersection of Alessandro Boulevard and Perris Boulevard, in the city of Moreno Valley. Deputies arrived on-scene to find there were two vehicles involved, a silver Nissan Altima and a white Toyota Corolla. It was discovered the Nissan’s driver had suffered severe, life-threatening injuries, and was declared deceased at the scene by paramedics. The sole passenger of the Nissan and the driver of the Toyota were transported to a local area hospital for the treatment of major, but non-life-threatening injuries sustained during the collision.
The Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station Traffic Collision Reconstruction Team responded to the location and assumed the investigation. Information obtained during the investigation revealed the Nissan was traveling eastbound on Alessandro Boulevard at a high rate of speed, when it failed to stop for a red signal light. As the Nissan entered the intersection, it collided with the Toyota attempting to turn left from westbound Alessandro Boulevard, onto southbound Perris Boulevard. The collision caused the Toyota to spin-out, as the Nissan rolled-over onto its roof before coming to rest within the eastbound lanes of Alessandro Boulevard.
The identities of the involved parties, including the deceased, will not be released pending further investigation and the notification to the next of kin. At this time, it remains unknown if alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in the collision. Due to the collision investigation and the need for extensive cleanup, a long-term closure of Perris Boulevard, from just south of Bay Avenue to Brodiaea Avenue, and Alessandro Boulevard, from Gaye Street to Flaming Arrow Drive, was required.
