Details:

On Thursday, June 17, 2021, at 6:00 P.M., deputies assigned to the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station Problem Oriented Policing Team, while conducting fireworks enforcement, contacted a subject suspected of selling fireworks in the 13000 block of Elsworth Street, Moreno Valley. Jonathan Navarro, a 22-year-old resident of Jurupa Valley, was found to be in possession of multiple types of illegal fireworks. Deputies subsequently conducted a search of Navarro’s residence and located additional illegal fireworks, as well as an unregistered weapon. Navarro was arrested and later booked at the Robert Presley Detention Center for Possession of Illegal Fireworks and Possession of an Unregistered Weapon.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department would like to remind the citizens of Moreno Valley that fireworks are illegal in Riverside County. The City of Moreno Valley has received multiple complaints regarding the on-going illegal fireworks activity in the city. Fireworks in residential areas are not only a nuisance, they also create the possibility of structure and vegetation fires, frighten elderly persons, and persons suffering from various conditions, and terrorize pets. Residents are reminded that in addition to the enforcement conducted by the Fireworks Task Force created by the City of Moreno Valley Code and Compliance division, Sheriff’s deputies will continue to seek out violators and issue citations.

Anyone with additional information pertaining to this case is encouraged to contact Deputy Jordan Merle at (951) 486-6700.
