Details:
Palm Desert Station Investigations conducted further investigation regarding a carjacking that occurred on September 21, 2021, in the 75000 block of Sheryl Avenue, Palm Desert. The suspect in this case brandished a replica firearm at the victim, while forcefully removing the victim from his vehicle. On September 22, 2021 at 1430 hours, Palm Desert Station Burglary Suppression Unit (BSU) located the victims vehicle in the 11000 block of Ocotillo Road, Desert Hot Springs. While conducting surveillance on this vehicle, a male and female were seen placing various items inside of the victim’s vehicle. With the assistance of the Palm Desert Special Enforcement Teams, the male and female were detained. The male, Colton Gibbs, 31 years of Desert Hot Springs, was identified as the suspect in the carjacking. A search of Gibbs’ vehicle yielded the replica firearm used to commit the crime. Gibbs was arrested and booked at the John Benoit Detention Center, in the city of Indio.
