Details:

On December 15, 2021, about 11:20 PM, deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Moreno Valley Station, responded to the report of a major-injury traffic collision on Redlands Boulevard, north of Ironwood Avenue, in the city of Moreno Valley. Deputies arrived on-scene to find there were three vehicles involved, a white, 2013 Toyota Corolla, a silver, 2007 Chevy Trail Blazer and an overturned silver, 2007 Nissan Altima. The driver of the Chevy was located unresponsive in the roadway and subsequently transported to a local area hospital with major injuries, while the driver of the Nissan was found trapped inside of the passenger compartment, requiring extrication by CalFire personnel before being transported to the hospital with non-life threatening major-injuries. The driver of the Toyota was uninjured during the traffic collision and remained on-scene to cooperate with the investigation.

The Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station Traffic Collision Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and assumed the investigation, which revealed two separate traffic collisions had occurred. Accident investigators learned the Toyota was traveling southbound on Redlands Boulevard when it struck and killed a burro (donkey) crossing the roadway near the intersection with Juniper Avenue. The driver of the Toyota moved his vehicle from the roadway and was in the process of calling for assistance when the driver of the Chevy angled her vehicle in front of the burro in an apparent attempt to prevent a secondary collision. The driver of the Chevy exited her vehicle and was standing near the driver’s side door when she was struck by the Nissan, causing her to be thrown several yards into the roadway. Upon impact, the Nissan pushed the Chevy into the parked Toyota, then careened across the roadway where it overturned in a nearby drainage ditch.None of the involved vehicles had passengers.

On December 19, 2021, it was learned the driver of the Chevy, identified as 52-year-old Jacqueline Morgan, of Moreno Valley, had succumb to the injuries she suffered during the traffic collision. The driver of the Nissan remains admitted to a local area hospital for the treatment of his injuries. The identity of other involved parties will not be released pending the investigation’s full completion. It is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision.

The traffic collision investigation required the temporary closure of Redlands Boulevard, between Locust Avenue and Ironwood Avenue, in order to process the scene and collect additional evidence.
