Details:

On Tuesday, December 21, 2021, about 5:30 p.m., deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Jurupa Valley Station, responded to a report of a major injury collision near the intersection of Mission Boulevard and Tyrolite Street in the city of Jurupa Valley. Deputies and fire personnel from Cal-Fire arrived on-scene to find a vehicle and a bicyclist involved in the collision. The driver of a small sedan was not injured and remained at the crash site. He cooperated with the investigation, was interviewed, and was released at the scene. The bicyclist was found to have major injuries and Cal-Fire personnel attempted life-saving measures, but the bicyclist succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

The Jurupa Valley Sheriff’s Station Traffic Collision Reconstruction Team responded to the location and assumed the investigation. Preliminary investigation indicated the bicyclist was traveling eastbound on Mission Boulevard approaching Tyrolite Street. The driver of the small sedan was also traveling eastbound on Mission Boulevard and collided with the bicyclist. Both directions of Mission Boulevard between Pyrite Street and Caleb Street were closed for the duration of the investigation.

The identity of the involved driver of the vehicle will not be released, pending further investigation. The bicyclist was identified as Jason Navoy, a 45-year-old resident of Jurupa Valley.  At this time, it remains unknown if alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in the collision.
