Riverside County Sheriff's Department Press Release

Reporting Deputy: Sergeant Robert Grmusha

File # MV221010318

Details:

On April 11, 2022, about 11:15 PM, deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Moreno Valley Station, responded to the report of a major-injury traffic collision at a residence, located on the 11900 block of Indian Street, in the city of Moreno Valley. Deputies arrived on-scene to find that a gray, 2003 Acura MDX had collided with an unoccupied Chevy Silverado parked in the driveway of the residence. Attempts were made to gain access to the passenger compartment of the Acura to assist the driver and passenger, but collision damage prevented deputies from gaining entry. CalFire personnel responded to the scene and performed an extrication of the driver and passenger from the Acura. The driver was transported to a local area hospital with non-life-threatening major injuries; however, the passenger was declared deceased at the scene after being found unresponsive without a pulse, with major traumatic injuries.

The Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station Traffic Collision Reconstruction Team responded to assume the investigation. Evidence discovered during the investigation revealed the Acura was traveling northbound on Indian Street at a high rate of speed when it veered across the southbound lane for an unknown reason, and struck the curb on the westside of the roadway. After striking the curb, the Acura became airborne, colliding with the Chevy Silverado parked in the driveway and the garage. Both the Chevy Silverado and the garage sustained major damage as a result of the collision, but no occupant of the residence was injured. It is unknown at this time if alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in this collision; however, the investigation remains ongoing.

During the investigation, the deceased passenger was identified as 40-year-old Keonia Brown, of Moreno Valley.  The identities of other involved parties will not be released pending further investigation.

The collision investigation required the temporary closure of Indian Street, between Ironwood Avenue and Covington Way, in order to process the scene and collect additional evidence.
