On Thursday, May 19, 2022, at 1:00 P.M., members of the Riverside County Regional Gang Task Force Region 6 Perris / Lake Elsinore conducted a vehicle stop in the 1100 block of Perrisito Street, in the city of Perris. Deputies contacted Darnell Sturges, a 29-year-old resident of Lake Elsinore. Deputies discovered Sturges was a convicted felon and operating his vehicle without a driver’s license. Deputies requested Sturges exit his vehicle and Sturges complied. A subsequent search of Sturges’ vehicle incident to arrest revealed a loaded .380-caliber firearm and one pound of processed marijuana.
Sturges was taken into custody and charged with being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Felon in Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Concealed Firearm in a Vehicle, and Possession of Marijuana for Sales. Sturges was booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center.
