On June 2, 2022, members of the Southwest Sheriff’s Station’s Special Enforcement Team (SET) conducted a traffic enforcement stop at the 28000 block of Jefferson Avenue in the city of Temecula. The passenger immediately exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. The passenger was detained without incident and during a pat-down search, SET located suspected narcotics and paraphernalia. The suspect was arrested, placed in the backseat of a unit, and SET contacted the driver. A records check revealed the driver had a suspended license and was detained in the backseat of a unit. Incident to arrest, SET conducted a search of the vehicle and located a large amount of suspected fentanyl, methamphetamine, paraphernalia, digital scales, and a replica handgun indicative of the sales of narcotics. Lisa Marie Wehus, a 33-year-old resident of Temecula, and Richard Dennis Murphy Jr., a 36-year-old resident of Temecula, were both booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center for possession of a narcotic for sale, transportation of a narcotic for sale, possession of paraphernalia, sale of a dangerous drug, possession of a dirk or dagger, and committing a felony while out on bail.
