On Monday, August 8, 2022, about 9:00 PM, the School Resource Officer for Patriot High School, located in the city of Jurupa Valley, received information about a possible threat at the school that was made on the social media site TikTok. The School Resource Officer obtained a posted video from a student, which mentioned a possible explosive device in a specific area of the school.
Personnel from Riverside County Sheriff Department and Jurupa Unified School District, immediately responded to the school to search for any possible suspicious items. There were no explosives or any other suspicious items located. During further investigation, a Patriot High School student was contacted and the posting was determined to be a hoax. The student was later arrested and booked into Riverside Juvenile Hall for Criminal Threats and Making a Fake Bomb Threat.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department would like to remind students and their parents that it is illegal to make threats of violence that may instill fear, even if there is no intention of causing violence or to do so as a practical joke. Social media postings that threaten violence are often done as a hoax, but always cause fear to students and staff members attending the school. Parents are encouraged to actively monitor your child’s social media accounts to deter them from engaging in inappropriate postings.
The Sheriff’s Department has zero tolerance for any type of threats made towards our schools, students or community members and will vigorously investigate all reported threats of violence or suspicious activity.
