On Saturday, October 19, 2019, at 12:00 A.M. the Coachella Valley Violent Crime Gang Task Force assisted California Highway Patrol Officers regarding a traffic stop on Interstate 10 and Bob Hope Drive in Palm Desert. During the incident, California Highway Patrol Officers observed a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed and conducted an enforcement stop. During the stop, a .44 caliber revolver was observed in the vehicle and the two occupants were detained. Gang Task Force Officers responded to the scene and assumed the investigation reference the firearm. Through their investigation, Gang Task Force Officers determined documented gang member, David Bustos, 20 of Indio was in possession of the revolver. Gang Task Force Officers arrested Bustos for being a Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Violation of Parole. California Highway Patrol Officers arrested the driver of the vehicle, documented gang member, Christopher Mendez, 21 of Indio for Driving Under the Influence. Both suspects were booked at the Indio Jail.
