Reporting Deputy: Alex Ruvalcaba

File # N/A

Details:

Personnel from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office Colorado River Station, in collaboration with the Palo Verde Unified School District, will be conducting critical incident training at local schools. This training will involve the simulation of critical incidents. During the simulation, there will be a heavy law enforcement presence, role players, loudspeakers, and other props to simulate a critical incident on a school campus. The training will occur Wednesday, April 12, 2023, beginning at 8:00 am and continuing throughout the day.

This collaborative training between the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department and the Palo Verde Unified School District is part of an ongoing effort to ensure personnel from the Sheriff’s Department, Blythe Police, California Highway Patrol, Border Patrol, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) and the La Paz County Sheriff’s Department are prepared to respond in the event of an incident involving one of our schools. The Colorado River Station will also conduct multiple force-on-force training scenarios throughout the year to help prepare our staff.

The Palo Verde Unified School District will notify the residents surrounding each location prior to the start of training. Throughout the year and even during these trainings: If you See Something, Say Something.

If you have any questions about the critical incident training or the ongoing training, please contact Sergeant E. Reynoso or Deputy A. Ruvalcaba at the Colorado River Station by calling (760) 921–7900.

Authorized members of the media are invited to film portions of the training on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at Felix J Appleby Elementary School, located at 10321 Vernon Avenue in Blythe, CA. While the training will take place over several hours, the media will only have access between the hours of 8:45 am and 3:45 pm.
