Riverside County Sheriff-Press Release

Reporting Deputy: Corporal Kent Eckenrode

File # A231140037

Details:

On Monday, April 24, 2023, at 5:29 pm, Colorado River Station (CRS) deputies received information of a stolen vehicle out of Tolleson, Arizona. CRS deputies located the vehicle heading westbound on Interstate 10 at Corn Springs Rd. The driver, later identified as a 17-year-old out of Arizona, fled from law enforcement and drove in a reckless manner at excessive speeds, weaving in and out of traffic, and nearly colliding with other motorists. A spike strip was set up by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and applied successfully, however, the vehicle continued at a high rate of speed. The juvenile exited at an off-ramp at Eagle Mountain Rd., drove onto the dirt extension of Eagle Mountain Rd., and the vehicle became disabled. The juvenile exited the vehicle and attempted to walk away but was immediately apprehended by assisting agencies to include a CHP airplane.

Further investigation revealed a handgun located outside of the vehicle, a high-capacity ammunition magazine and ski mask located in the vehicle. The juvenile was arrested and booked into the Indio Juvenile Hall for felony evading and possession of stolen property.

The investigation is currently on-going. Anyone with information on this case is encouraged to contact Deputy Ritchie at the Colorado River Sheriff’s Station by calling (760) 921-7900.
