Riverside County Sheriff-Press Release

Reporting Deputy: Sergeant Ed Reynoso

File # N/A

Details:

The Riverside County Sheriff’s - Colorado River Station, with the assistance of Blythe Police Department, California Highway Patrol, United States Border Patrol, Cal-Fire, and the Blythe Fire Department, will be assisting the United States Marine Corp (USMC) in a realistic military exercise within the City of Blythe and surrounding Palo Verde Valley communities on Saturday, August 19, 2023. Citizens and residents should expect traffic control, road closures, and areas cordoned off to the public for the duration of the exercise.

The purpose of the exercise is to provide the USMC the opportunity to conduct training in unfamiliar environments. During the exercise, the USMC will be required to conduct a series of challenging and realistic training events to test their ability to conduct conventional and specialized missions. It is expected that the USMC will be utilizing explosives for breaching wood facades, simunitions, rubber bullets, and blanks will be used against a fictional threat, if necessary. Military aircraft is also expected be in the area during the training.

This event would not have been possible without the cooperative efforts of our allied agencies within Riverside County.
