2 Arrested and 14 Cited at Rancho Mirage DUI Checkpoint

Rancho Mirage, Calif. – On April 6, 2024, one person was arrested for Driving Under the Influence (DUI), and 1 person was arrested for driving on a suspended license at a DUI checkpoint on April 6, 2024. The DUI checkpoint was held at Highway 111 and Library Way, Rancho Mirage from 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.

1,156 vehicles were screened, 14 drivers were cited for operating a vehicle unlicensed, and 8 additional citations were issued for other hazardous violations.

DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints are to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads.

Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Riverside County Sheriff- Palm Desert Station Holding DUI Checkpoint April 5, 2024

Rancho Mirage, Calif. – On April 5, 2024, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office will conduct a driving under the influence (DUI) Checkpoint April 5th from 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. at an undisclosed location.

DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on data showing incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off the road.

“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” Deputy Thomas said. "Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improves traffic safety.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office – Rancho Mirage, reminds the public that impaired driving is not just from alcohol. Some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving. While medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal, driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal.

Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.
