On Monday, December 16, 2019, at 3:54 PM, deputies from the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station responded to the report of a traffic collision involving a vehicle and pedestrian at the intersection of Portola Ave. and Shadow Mountain Dr., Palm Desert. Upon arriving to the scene, deputies located a 57-year-old female suffering from injuries consistent with being stuck by a vehicle. The female was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The driver of the vehicle, a 19-year-old white male, remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Both parties are Palm Desert residents
The preliminary investigation indicates the motorist was turning northbound onto Portola Ave. from eastbound Shadow Mountain Dr. The pedestrian was crossing Portola Ave. westbound within the crosswalk when she was struck by the vehicle sustaining significant injuries.
The Palm Desert Station’s Traffic Reconstruction Team responded and assumed the investigation. The investigation to determine the cause of the collision is ongoing, and anyone who witnessed the collision or has further information is asked to call Deputy Bradley Stone of the Palm Desert Station’s Traffic Team at (760) 836-1600.
