On December 18, 2019, after a yearlong investigation, deputies from the Rancho Mirage Special Enforcement Team with the assistance of the Palm Desert Special Enforcement Team and the Burglary Suppression Unit arrested Luis Armando Castaneda, 20 years of Cathedral City and Alex Isidro Quiroz, 22 years of Cathedral City for their involvement in the fatal traffic collision that occurred on December 13, 2018. Castaneda and Quiroz were arrested without incident at their respective residences. They were both booked into the county jail in Indio on a charge of Gross Vehicular Manslaughter in the death of bicyclist William Thomas Cambell.

Details:

On Thursday, December 13, 2018 at approximately 6:51 AM, traffic officers from the Rancho Mirage Police Department responded to the area of Ramon Rd. and Rattler Rd. in reference to a reported traffic collision involving a bicyclist and vehicle.  Preliminary investigation revealed the bicyclist and vehicle were traveling eastbound on Ramon Road, when the vehicle collided with the bicyclist.  The male bicyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The motorist remained at the scene and cooperated with traffic officers.  The identification of the bicyclist will be pending the notification of the next of kin. The investigation to determine the cause of the collision is ongoing. Anyone who witnessed the collision or has further information is asked to call Officer Bazanos from the Rancho Mirage Police Department’s Traffic Team at (760) 836-1600.
