On January 24, 2020, deputies assigned to the city of Canyon Lake responded to a multi vehicle traffic collision on Railroad Canyon Road west of Goetz Road. The preliminary investigation revealed a vehicle traveling eastbound on Railroad Canyon Road collided with the back of a vehicle that was also traveling eastbound. One of the vehicles then crossed over the center divider and collided with a vehicle traveling westbound. Two occupants of the westbound vehicle were pronounced deceased as a result of the collision. Other involved parties were transported to local hospitals for treatment.
The Perris Station Traffic Reconstruction Team responded to the location and assumed the investigation. Railroad Canyon Road was closed in both directions for several hours while deputies processed the scene.
