On February 5, 2020 around 4:30 PM a female adult victim walked into the Moreno Valley Station to report a male suspect attempted to extort money from her, for pictures he took during some of their intimate encounters without her consent. He told the victim he would disseminate the photos if she didn’t pay him the money he requested.  The suspect also threatened to send out the photographs if she discontinued their relationship.

Moreno Valley Detectives assumed the investigation and identified Joel Daza, 45 years old, from Redondo Beach, California as the primary suspect. Daza agreed to meet the victim at a local hotel on February 6, 2020.  Detectives initiated surveillance of the hotel and when Daza arrived, he was taken into custody without incident.

Daza is currently being investigated by the Anaheim Police Department for a similar case.  The Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station is committed to the safety of the citizens of this community and will be vigilant in investigating all crimes.
