Details:

In the early morning hours of Monday, February 24, 2020, a 71-year-old female was gambling at the Soboba Resort and Casino and left her purse unattended under the seat of her walker while she gambled at a slot machine. While she was distracted, a suspect identified as 33-year-old Banning resident Peng Vang, stole her purse containing her credit cards and family photos. Vang proceeded to use the victim’s credit card at several businesses to purchase approximately $1000 worth of tools that he planned to use to further his illegal marijuana cultivation.

On Monday, March 16, 2020, at approximately 8:38 A.M., deputies and investigators served a search warrant at Vang’s residence in the 800 Block of N. Alessandro Rd., in the City of Banning. Vang was in custody for an unrelated matter during the service of the search warrant. The victim’s purse, including her credit cards and family photos was located as well as all of the items Vang had purchased with the victim’s stolen credit card. A small marijuana grow was located and eradicated on the property. A backpack containing approximately forty pieces of stolen mail, from the Cherry Valley area, was located inside a gray Honda Civic that Vang had been driving prior to his arrest.

Charges of Burglary, Identity Theft, Probation Violation, Credit Card Fraud, Marijuana Cultivation, Mail Theft and Possession of Controlled Substances will be filed with the District Attorney’s Office.
