Update:

On Friday, April 3, 2020, deputies responded to the area of where the Deputy Involved Shooting occurred, and located a deceased male. The male was identified as 28-year-old, Rico Robles of Aguanga. Robles was positively identified as the suspect in the Deputy Involved Shooting from April 1st.


Details:

On Wednesday, April 1, 2020, at 6:11 AM, Riverside County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call for service in reference to a stolen trailer. Deputies responded and attempted to conduct a stop on the vehicle in the area of Rancho California Road and Margarita Road in the city of Temecula, when the driver took evasive actions, and failed to stop; resulting in a vehicle pursuit.

The pursuit terminated at Tule Peak Road and Eastgate Trail in the unincorporated area of Riverside County known as, Aguanga. As the pursuit concluded, the suspect attempted to assault two deputies with his vehicle, resulting in a Deputy Involved Shooting.  A male adult suspect fled the location on foot.  Investigators are working to identify the suspect. 

Per department policy, the deputies involved have been placed on administrative leave.

The Central Homicide Unit is investigating the incident and is seeking assistance in locating the suspect. Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact the Central Homicide Unit at 951-955-2777 or Riverside Sheriff’s Dispatch at 951-776-1099 option 5.
