On May 7, 2020, the suspect, Adam Slater, was discharged from a local hospital, and transported to the Palm Desert Sheriff Station for further investigation. Slater was later booked for murder, attempted murder, and assault with a deadly weapon at the John Benoit Detention Center in Indio.

On May 6, 2020, at about 8:30 a.m., deputies from the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station were dispatched to a report of a stabbing in a parking lot in the 44100 block of Washington St., Indian Wells. Upon arrival, deputies found a female victim with multiple injuries caused in a domestic violence incident. The female victim was transported to a local hospital and is in stable condition. Deputies identified the suspect as Adam Slater, 49 years of Palm Desert, and broadcast his description and the vehicle he fled in.
At about 9:00 a.m., CHP dispatch received a report of a collision off Hwy. 74 south of Vista Point. The description of the vehicle involved was similar to the suspect vehicle in the stabbing in Indian Wells. Witnesses went to the aid of the occupants of the overturned vehicle several hundred feet from the roadway. The driver then ran to the passenger side of the vehicle, where he stabbed a male who had assisted getting a young girl from the vehicle. The suspect then took the girl from the arms of the male he stabbed. Multiple witnesess saw the suspect take the child and throw her over a steep cliff into a ravine. The suspect then fled on foot into the canyon.
Upon deputies’ arrival at the collision scene, they were directed to the location of the suspect. After a short foot pursuit, they detained the suspect, Adam Slater. Deputies and a CHP Officer were directed to the location of the child, where they found her deceased. The child was found to be the daughter of the suspect. Slater was transported to a local hospital for injuries from the collision. The assisting bystander sought medical treatment on his own.
The Central Homicide Unit responded and assumed the investigation. The suspect, Adam Slater, will be arrested and booked for murder upon his release from the hospital.
