On Thursday, June 11, 2020, at approximately 10:00 PM, deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Palm Desert Station, responded to a report of a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in the area of Monterey Avenue and Hovley Lane, Palm Desert. Upon the deputy’s arrival they located a 25 -year-old white male adult suffering from injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. The driver of the vehicle, a 26-year-old Hispanic female adult, from Palm Desert, remained at the scene and was cooperative with the investigation, and was later released.

The preliminary investigation indicates the pedestrian was in the crosswalk when he was initially struck by a single vehicle. After the initial collision, at least two other vehicles also struck the pedestrian as he was laying in the roadway. The cause of the collision is still under investigation, but alcohol does not appear to be a factor.

The identity of the deceased will be released by the coroner’s office once positive identification can be established, and next of kin can be notified. Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact Deputy Nicole Wilhite of the Palm Desert Station’s Traffic Team at (760) 836-1600 or call anonymously at (760) 341-STOP (7867) and reference incident #T201630135.
