Details:
On Tuesday, June 16th, 2020, at about 6:06 a.m., deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, San Jacinto Station, responded to Cottonwood Avenue, west of Warren Road, regarding a single vehicle traffic collision. Deputies located a vehicle fully engulfed off the shoulder of Cottonwood Avenue. Cal-Fire arrived on-scene and extinguished the fire. A deceased subject was located inside the vehicle.
The preliminary investigation revealed a red Mercedes Benz was traveling westbound, in the eastbound lanes, at a high rate of speed, on Cottonwood Avenue, narrowly missing several other vehicles. The driver lost control of the vehicle and struck several trees and a fence before coming to rest on the edge of a park. The identification of the decedent is being withheld pending Coroner’s notification of the next of kin.
The San Jacinto Stations Collision Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. During the investigation, Cottonwood Avenue was closed at Warren Road until about 12:00 p.m. This investigation is ongoing, anyone with information regarding this collision is encouraged to contact Deputy Cox at the San Jacinto Station, 951-654-2702.
