On July 28, 2020, about 4:30 p.m., investigators assigned to the Southwest Station obtained information leading to the identification of the suspect involved in the sexual assault incident that took place on July 16, 2020, on the “Santa Gertrudis Creek Trail” (run and bike path) underneath Winchester Road, city of Temecula. 19-year-old Murrieta resident, Travon Branom, was arrested at his residence and evidence seized in relation to the crime. He was booked at the Cois M. Byrd Detention Center for attempted rape and assault leading to serious bodily injury, bail amount set at $500,000.

Details:

On July 16, 2020, about 10:30 a.m., deputies assigned to the Southwest Station were dispatched to a report of an assault incident, on the “Santa Gertrudis Creek Trail” (run and bike path) underneath Winchester Road, city of Temecula. Upon arrival to the area, deputies found a female with minor to moderate injuries stating she had been sexually assaulted by an unknown race male, medium complexion, 17 to 24 years of age, medium height, thin build, riding a beach cruiser style bicycle. The victim was transported by paramedics to a local hospital where she is receiving treatment for her injuries. A crime scene was secured, and Southwest Station investigators responded and assumed the investigation. A similar incident occurred on June 14 in the same area where a female victim was assaulted, and her cell phone stolen. That investigation has been on-going.
