On Sunday, July 12, 2020, at 8:30 a.m., Deputy Cotoia responded to the 28000 block of Wendover Road in the unincorporated community of Romoland regarding a report of stolen horses. Upon arrival, Deputy Cotoia discovered one Andalusian/Saddlebred horse and three Friesian Sport horses, valued at $140,000, were stolen during the night.
The Perris Station Burglary/Robbery Suppression Team assumed the investigation. Investigators learned the horses were hidden at a ranch in the city of Murrieta. On Wednesday, August 5, 2020, the Perris Station Burglary/Robbery Suppression Team, along with the Investigations Bureau, Special Enforcement Team, Problem Oriented Policing Team, and Deputy Cotoia, served a search warrant at the ranch located on the 23000 block of Adams Avenue in the city of Murrieta. Investigators recovered the four stolen horses and reunited them with the owner.
Anaiah Powers, a 21 year-old transient, was contacted and determined to be responsible for the theft. Charges will be requested with the District Attorney’s Office for grand theft as a result of the investigation.
