On Wednesday, October 7, 2020, at 9:15 A.M. the Coachella Valley Violent Crime Gang Task Force (CVVCGTF) with the assistance of Riverside County Probation, conducted an occupied vehicle check at Louis Avenue and Tea Garden Street in the unincorporated area of Palm Springs. During the vehicle check they contacted the occupant of the vehicle who was seated in the driver seat, Doroteo Castro, 45 of Indio. Castro was found to be on active county probation. During a probation compliance check of Castro’s vehicle, Gang Task Force Officers located a loaded .40 caliber semi-auto handgun and approximately one pound of suspected methamphetamine. Also located was suspected heroin and evidence of narcotics sales. Gang Task Force Officers arrested Castro without incident.
At 3:30 P.M. Gang Task Force Officers served a search warrant at Castro’s residence located in the 82000 block of Crest Avenue in the city of Indio. During the service of the search warrant Gang Task Force Officers located a .22 caliber rifle, ammunition, an expandable baton, suspected heroin and suspected cocaine.
Castro was charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Felon in Possession of Ammunition, Possession of Narcotics with a Firearm, Possession of Narcotics for Sales and Violation of Probation. Additionally, Castro was found to have an active Felony Arrest Warrant for Narcotics Sales. Castro was subsequently booked at the John Benoit Detention Center in Indio.
