Details:

On December 16, 2020, about 7:31 AM, deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Moreno Valley Station, responded to the report of a major injury traffic collision near the intersection of Eucalyptus Avenue and Kitching Street, in the city of Moreno Valley. Deputies arrived on-scene to found there were three vehicles involved, with several occupants suffering from varying injuries.

The Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station Traffic Collision Reconstruction Team responded to the location and assumed the investigation. The preliminary investigation revealed that a green Toyota Tacoma was traveling eastbound on Eucalyptus Avenue at a high rate of speed, approaching Kitching Street. When the Tacoma entered the intersection, it failed to stop for a posted stop sign and struck a white Toyota Camry. After striking the Toyota Camry, the Toyota Tacoma became airborne and rolled over the top of a Hyundai Sonata that was traveling westbound on Eucalyptus Avenue, approaching the intersection with Kitching Street. The Toyota Tacoma continued to rollover until it came to a rest on its roof, near the intersection of Coralberry Way and Eucalyptus Avenue.

At the time of the collision, nearby city of Moreno Valley employees, who witnessed the collision, responded to the scene to assist. While one city employee removed the juvenile passenger from the Toyota Tacoma, the other extinguished a small fire erupting within the engine compartment. The occupants of the Toyota Tacoma and Toyota Camry were transported to local area hospitals for medical treatment. The occupant of the Hyundai reported no injuries.

The collision investigation required the closure of Eucalyptus Avenue, between Kentland Lane and Coralberry Street, in addition to Kitching Street, between Wedmore Drive and Atwood Avenue.

The identity of the involved parties will not be released pending further investigation.  Alcohol and or drugs were considered to be a suspected factor.
