On January 5th, 2021, at 7:00 A.M., deputies assigned to the Coachella Community Action Team (CCAT), with the assistance of the Coachella Valley Narcotic Task Force (CVNTF), served a search warrant at a residence in the 85200 block of Avenue 55 in the unincorporated area of Thermal. The search warrant stemmed from a robbery at gunpoint incident which occurred on December 27th, 2020 in the 53500 block of Cesar Chavez in the city of Coachella. During the search warrant service, stolen property, suspected methamphetamine, and narcotic sales indicia were located and seized. Taken into custody was the suspect, documented criminal street gang member Jose Juan Gayton, 40 of Thermal. Jose Juan Gayton was booked at the John Benoit Detention Center (JBDC) for robbery, and possession of methamphetamine for sale. A California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation parole hold was also obtained.
