On January 1, 2021, deputies assigned to the Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Station responded to the area of Lakeshore Drive and Spring Street, in the city of Lake Elsinore, reference a stabbing. Upon arrival deputies located two victim’s suffering from multiple stab wounds. Both victims were transported to local area hospitals where they received medical treatment. The Lake Elsinore Station Investigations Unit responded and assumed the investigation. Through the course of the investigation the suspect was identified as, Andrew Avila, age 28, a resident of the city of Lake Elsinore, whom had fled from the scene prior to deputies arrival. On January 7, 2021, Lake Elsinore Station Investigators, along with deputies from the Lake Elsinore Station County Problem Oriented Policing Team, identified the possible location where Andrew Avila was staying, responded to the area, and arrested Andrew Avila without further incident.
Andrew Avila was transported to Cois Byrd Detention Center and booked on the charges of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and mayhem.
