On Thursday, January 21, 2021, investigators from the Palm Desert Station were investigating an ongoing missing persons case and located human remains in the open desert area on the south east corner of Mission Lakes Blvd. and Little Morongo Rd. in Desert Hot Springs.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit responded and assumed the investigation. The decedent was positively identified as David Joaquin Murrieta, 20 years old out of Desert Hot Springs.
