On February 3, 2021, deputies responded to the 31500 block of Canyon Estates Drive, in the city of Lake Elsinore, regarding a subject who had overdosed on unknown narcotics. When deputies arrived, they located a male subject lying on his back, next to a red pickup truck. Cal-Fire personnel responded and successfully performed life saving measures. The subject, James Steedly, a resident of the city of Menifee, later advised he took opioids, rendering him incapacitated. A record check indicated that Steedly had an outstanding warrant for narcotics possession and was on summary probation with search terms.
A search of his vehicle was conducted, and deputies located a loaded .25 caliber pistol, narcotics, and narcotics paraphernalia. Steedly was transported to the hospital for a medical evaluation. He was subsequently booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center for possession of narcotics with a firearm.
