Details:
On May 7, 2021, at 7:21 PM, deputies from the Perris Sheriff’s Station responded to a residence located near the 22000 block of Margarth Street, in the unincorporated area of Riverside County, regarding a reported family disturbance and an assault with a deadly weapon. Deputies received information that the suspect struck the victim with a “crowbar” during an argument.
On arrival to the location, deputies learned the suspect was still in the area. Deputies contacted the suspect in a nearby field and saw he was still in possession of the crowbar. Deputies ordered the suspect to drop the crowbar, but he refused to comply with commands. A taser was deployed, but it was ineffective. The suspect advanced toward one of the deputies with the crowbar in his hand and a deputy involved shooting occurred. One deputy fired his service weapon striking the suspect. The crowbar was recovered at the scene.
Immediately after the incident, deputies rendered medical aid until relieved by Cal Fire personnel. The suspect was then transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Despite lifesaving measures, the suspect succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. The victim of the assault sustained non-life threatening injuries and did not require medical treatment. No deputies were injured during this incident.
The name of the suspect will not be released at this time pending next of kin notification. There are no outstanding suspects and there is no threat to the public.
The involved deputy will be placed on administrative leave per department policy. The name of the involved deputies will not be released at this time.
