Details:
On July 22, 2021, about 3:36 PM, deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Moreno Valley Station, responded to the report of a major injury traffic collision on Atwood Avenue, west of Indian Street , in the city of Moreno Valley. Deputies arrived on-scene to find there were two vehicles involved, a gray 2016 Kia Soul and red 2004 Honda sport motorcycle. The driver of the Kia was not injured and remained on scene. The driver of the motorcycle was found to have major injuries and Fire/Rescue personnel attempted life-saving measures. The motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
The Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station Traffic Collision Reconstruction Team responded to the location and assumed the investigation. The preliminary investigation revealed the motorcyclist was westbound on Atwood Avenue. The Kia driver was driving in front of the motorcyclist. The Kia driver attempted a turning movement from Atwood Avenue. The motorcyclist approached from behind and crossed the centerline to pass the Kia. The motorcyclist collided into the driver side and the motorcyclist ejected.
The identity of the motorcyclist will not be released, pending notification of the next-of-kin. The collision is still under investigation. Deputies are still investigating if alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in this collision.
