Details:
On July 25, 2021, about 3:26 PM, deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Moreno Valley Station, responded to the report of a major injury traffic collision near the intersection of Lasselle Street and Via Xavier, in the city of Moreno Valley. Deputies arrived on-scene to find there were two vehicles involved, a red, 2008 Toyota Matrix and a black, 2016 Kia Forte. The driver of the Toyota was extricated from the passenger compartment and transported to a local area hospital with major injuries, while the driver of the Kia and his juvenile passenger were found to be unharmed.
Accident Investigators from the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station responded to the location and assumed the investigation. The preliminary investigation revealed the Kia was traveling southbound on Lasselle Street when it entered the intersection with Via Xavier, against a solid red signal light, colliding with the Toyota as it was turning left onto northbound Lasselle Street from eastbound Via Xavier. Intoxication was not considered a factor in this traffic collision.
On July 28, 2021, Accident Investigators from the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station were informed the driver of the Toyota succumbed to injuries sustained during the traffic collision, prompting a follow-up investigation by the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station Traffic Collision Reconstruction Team. The collision investigation required a temporary closure of Lasselle Street, between Yanez Trail Road and Arroyo Park Drive, in order to obtain additional evidence.
The identity of involved parties will not be released pending further investigation and the notification to next of kin.
