Details:

On Thursday, July 29, 2021, the La Quinta Special Enforcement Team conducted a follow-up investigation that stemmed from a grand theft of copper wire from the 78000 block of Highway 111, in the city of La Quinta. The theft occurred on July 26, 2021; however, it was not reported until July 29, 2021. The suspect concealed items within much higher priced items and paid for the lower priced items.

On Thursday, August 12, 2021, deputies located and arrested the suspect, Ricardo Garcia Munoz, 39 of La Quinta, at the 700 block of Palm Avenue, in the city of Palm Springs. Stolen property related to the grand theft was recovered.

Deputies served a search warrant at the 50000 block of Eisenhower Dr., in the city of La Quinta. During the service, deputies located property linked to the theft, a short-barrel assault rifle, and a high capacity magazine. Munoz was charged for the grand theft, possession of stolen property, possession of an assault weapon, and possession of a high capacity magazine; he was booked at the John J. Benoit Detention Center.
