Details:

On Sunday, January 31st, 2021, about 11:56 a.m., deputies from the Perris Station responded to a church, located at the 33000 Block of Taylor St., in the unincorporated area of Winchester, regarding a burglary and vandalism incident. During the initial investigation, deputies learned an unknown subject had broken into the property and caused a large amount of damage to the inside of the church and stole items. Surveillance footage was obtained showing the suspected person broke into the property during the late evening of January 29, and left in the morning of January 30. Upon further research and investigation by the initial responding deputy and the Perris Station Burglary/Robbery Suppression Team, the suspect was identified as 33 year old transient male, Zachary Daniel Elliott of Indio (California). During the investigation, it was discovered, Elliott was being held in custody on an unrelated criminal investigation, at the Larry Smith Correctional Facility (Banning).

Based on the evidentiary leads developed by the Perris Station Burglary Suppression Team members, a search warrant was obtained for the suspect, his property, and DNA. During the search of Elliott’s property, additional suspected stolen items were recovered from the city of Lake Elsinore. These included specific electronic devices that were determined to be the property of a business in the city of Lake Elsinore with an estimated value of $5000.00. The property was collected and arrangements have been made for their return to the rightful owners. Additional charges related to this investigation will be filed in addition to his current pending charges.

This is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information regarding this investigation is encouraged to contact Deputy Gil or Deputy Chaffin at the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department – Perris Station by calling (951) 210-1000, or by email at PerrisStation@riversidesheriff.org.
